Degree/Education (5.2.4): Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW). Graduate from a School of Social Work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): None
Experience: One year experience is required in the specified LCSW field
Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4): None
Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
HCW Duties (5.1 Task 1): The duties for the HCW are as follows:
Coordinate appropriate referrals to community and other Government agencies for services.
Independently assess immediate risk level, provide crisis intervention services, provide immediate treatment to mitigate crisis, coordinate further inpatient or outpatient care as appropriate, and make community referrals.
Independently conduct psychosocial assessments and provide initial psychosocial intervention/treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diverse backgrounds.
Review and follow MEDCOM/DHA, DoD/VA Guidelines and any other policy required for treatment of military service members.
Coordinate with service member’s leadership as indicated per regulation and clinical judgment.
Use mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures.
This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology.
Implement evidence-based treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
Provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment.
Participate in professional peer review case conferences, research studies, or other organizations required at the MTF.
Provides crisis intervention services supporting the care of patients in the Emergency Department.
Assist medical staff during medical trauma cases as determined by the staff physician.
This may include death notifications, bereavement care, notifying family members and unit leadership of patients in the DEM, and after-crisis debriefings to patients, units, families, and DEM Staff.
Completes required documentation for voluntary and involuntary inpatient behavioral health admissions, such as Emergency Orders of Detention and Orders of Protective Custody.
Effectively communicates without outside departments and hospitals in order to support care, care coordination, and admission of patients, to include completing and transmitting required information.
Assists with coordination of care for a select group of complex patients to ensure desirable patient outcomes are achieved.
Consults and coordinates with other multi-disciplinary care professionals, agencies, organizations, and other ancillary support systems to assist patients in optimizing their level of function and self-care.
Includes support with referrals for home health care and home health equipment.
Assists DEM team in care of non-accidental trauma/child abuse, adult, and elder abuse patients, to include mandatory referrals as required by the state of Texas

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects.
